Dr. Rabenstein is a licensed counseling psychologist. She earned a Master of Science in Applied Developmental Psychology from the University of Pittsburgh, a Master of Arts in Counseling Psychology at Boston College, and a Doctor of Counseling Psychology at Chatham University. Her clinical and research interests include Medical Trauma; Developmental Perspectives on Chronic Illness and Hospitalization; Parenting and Chronic Illness; Pregnancy and Parenting and Chronic Illness–with an aim to improve practice through participatory research. Before joining faculty at MUSC, Dr. Rabenstein worked in a wide range of clinical settings including hospital in-patient, detention centers, partial programs for children and adolescents with autism spectrum disorders, inner-city schools, private college preparatory schools, several universities, community mental health, community organizing NGO’s, and as a consultant. Dr. Rabenstein’s writing has appeared in academic journals, magazines, online news sources, and more. She is often asked to make appearances as a mental health expert in the media (TedX, The Doctors TV show, ABC, The Wall Street Journal, Bustle, Mic, Thrive, Real Simple, and PopSugar for example). Her recent book, Psychological Secrets for Emotional Success (It’s All About Love) was published in 2022 and has been translated into several languages.
