Cara Monforton is a board-certified physician assistant who joined the Department of Cardiology- Advanced Heart Failure Team in August of 2021. Cara was born in Detroit, Michigan and first moved to Charleston, South Carolina to attend the College of Charleston, where she graduated cum laude with a B.S. degree in biology.Following her college graduation, Cara first joined the MUSC community as a research specialist within the neuroscience department. Here, she assisted in pre-clinical research intended to reveal the neurobiological underpinnings of drug addiction. She is a co-author in three publications. Motivated to become more involved in direct patient care, she pursued PA school. She completed her PA education at Elon University’s Physician Assistant Program. Upon graduation, she was awarded membership into the Pi Alpha Honor Society, the national honor society for physician assistants, which recognizes the inductees’ significant academic achievements, leadership, research, and service to the profession.Cara still holds a strong interest in research and values its indispensable role in the management of heart failure. In practice, she encompasses a mission that upholds patient care that is compassionate, just, and responsive to each individual’s needs. Outside of clinical practice, Cara enjoys traveling, listening to live music, and riding horses.
